OVERVIEW

I consulted for Walmart Global eCommerce as a UX Architect. This was a big redesign that was focused on a “new” approach that would revitalize and present information in a more dynamic approach. The project was on a very tight deadline with rapid iterations between concepts, designs, and user testing. Very fun!

The business came to us and asked for a “refresh” that incorporated a “social” aspect and the rest was left to us to figure out :). The final result was a “clean” look with an editorial focus that provided a shopper with VALUE to their browsing. We felt that search had to be highlighted and made more user friendly. A fun feature was the social “Pinterest” section that would display the current social heartbeat of the internet (“Pins”, ratings, purchases, etc). Additionally, we added a localized shopping section that provided a user with a window into local events, news, promotions (Rollbacks), as well as social feeds from their local Walmart Facebook page.

One of the advantages of working for Walmart is the ability to run our designs through user testing in their testing labs (very cool!). After iterations of testing we where able to finally reach a consensus in design, but the great news was that our design showed a very positive response from the first round. Walmart was able to release a new look for “Black Friday” to a selected market and gather enough data to prove the success of the design. You can see it live @ Walmart.com
